The Core (Compiler Optimization Research) Lab
is a research lab led by professor Hanjun Kim in the School of Electrical and
Electronic Engineering at Yonsei University. The focus of
the CoreLab is the design of new compilers and computer systems to
improve performance, power-efficiency and security without burdening
application developers especially for distributed heterogeneous
computer systems.

- A new IoT framework for manufacturers, programmers and users
The Internet of Things (IoT) enables new services such as smart home
and smart healthcare by integrating diverse IoT devices. The
Esperanto project proposes a novel IoT framework that allows manufacturers to
easily develop various IoT devices and their APIs, programmers to easily
integrate heterogeneous devices with right abstraction, and users to
easily and safely control and customize the IoT devices and programs.

The Parallelization Project
- New designs of domain specific accelerators and their compilers
As state-of-the-art smartphones, tablet, laptops and servers adopt
multicore processors with GPUs and custom accelerators, computer
systems become increasingly parallel and heterogeneous. The
parallelization project investigates domain specific programs such
as deep learning and scientific applications to find hardware
acceleration opportunities, and proposes new hardware accelerators
and their compilers.

The Security Project
- Compiler and runtime systems for secure program execution
Computer systems are storehouses of personal information. As more
and more personal data are stored in computer systems, and more and
more computers are connected through the Internet, ensuring the
confidentiality of the private data has become a critical problem.
The Security project proposes a co-designed compiler and runtime
system that securely protect private information in various
computing environments.
